The idea for developing a public
transport center evolved as a result of the honorable directive that
was issued by His Royal Highness Prince Salman Ibn Abdulaziz, the
Emir of Riyadh District. On the basis of that directive, economic
feasibility studies and other marketing studies were conducted. All
contingent actual and future requirements pertinent to transport
companies and commuters to and from Riyadh via this center were
taken in account.
It was
noticed that over the last years that elapsed there had been a
considerably growing expansion an constant development in
transporting passengers between the main cities in the K.S.A. and
other capital cities of neighboring Arab countries besides the Haj
and Umrah trips from Riyadh to Makkah. As a result of this, the
transport companies operating in this business multiplied and
crammed up at Shamsiya area which lies in Batha, the downtown of
Riyadh. Consequently, the area became more congested and the
difficulty in offering the various services relevant to domestic and
international transport was aggravated.
The
subsequent situation made it necessary to seriously think of
contriving radical solutions that would result in an immediate
relief. Attracting greater numbers of domestic and international
customers as wells as securing future land transport constituents
are of prime importance.
Launching
from these considerations, Arriyadh Development Company prepared
comprehensive plans aimed at diagnosing the transport problem in
order to come up with convenient solutions in collaboration with a
number of relevant agencies. Following extensive studies on some
proposed sites on one of which the center would be constructed, the
company procured the consent of the Ministry of Communications to
construct the Public Transport Center at the southern sector of the
